On Tuesday, the 2019 Gold Glove Award winners were announced. Both the Cubs and White Sox had two players among the finalists: Anthony Rizzo (1B – CHC); Yolmer Sánchez (2B – CWS); Jason Heyward (RF – CHC) and Lucas Giolito (P – CWS).
Rizzo was the National League winner at 1st base, beating out finalists Christian Walker of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Paul Goldschmidt of the St. Louis Cardinals. This is Rizzo’s 3rd Gold Glove win.
Sánchez was the American League winner at 2nd base. He finished ahead of one-time winner and MVP José Altuve of the 2019 World Series runner-up Houston Astros and three-time winner DJ LeMahieu of the New York Yankees. This is Sánchez’s first win.
Awards season continues tonight with the announcement of the BBWAA awards (Manager of the Year, Rookie of the Year, MVP, Cy Young) finalists. Please check back for my predictions on who will win as opposed to who should win!
