Free agent shortstop Dansby Swanson, the subject of interest from several MLB teams, has yet to sign a contract for 2023 and beyond. The MLB insiders have yet to report any team is “closing in” on a deal with the 2022 Gold Glove winner.
The Chicago Cubs had been one of the favorites for Swanson’s services, but their front office has seemingly balked at offering the lengthy contracts that are a trend in the 2023 free-agent market.
Meanwhile, Swanson has wed U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team and Chicago Red Stars star Mallory Pugh over the weekend.

If Swanson is an attentive bridegroom, I would expect him to spend the next few weeks enjoying his honeymoon and celebrating the holidays rather than hurrying up to sign a deal and attend press conferences with team executives. A new rumor about interest from the high-rolling Dodgers will serve as a nice distraction to get the top suitors to increase their offers while Swanson relaxes on the beach with his bride.
Star free agent SS Dansby Swanson appears to be possibility for the Dodgers, where he could reunite with Freddie Freeman. Swanson, who married USWNT/Chicago Red Stars star Mallory Pugh Saturday, also has drawn interest from Cubs/others. Incumbent Braves remain stealthy or quiet.

If business rightfully takes a back seat to pleasure, Swanson will continue to be available for the time being. Carlos Correa also remains unsigned. Teams who were interested in both shortstops will pursue Swanson more aggressively once Correa is off the table. Brace yourselves for more rumors than news until after the New Year.
