Darvish Leads Cubs to Series Victory over Reds

Following Tuesday night’s walkoff victory, Yu Darvish took the mound for the Cubs in the rubber match of their three-game series at Wrigley Field against the Cincinnati Reds. The Cubs were looking for their first series victory of the year against Cincy, while Darvish was looking for his first win at Wrigley Field as a Northsider.

Darvish had his second straight quality start since the All-Star Break, allowing no runs on two hits with seven strikeouts and no walks in 6.0 IP. The offense came through with two early home runs, including a 1st inning bomb from INF Kris Bryant, followed by some insurance runs in the 7th and 8th innings.

The Cubs continue to cling to a 2.5 game lead in the division standings over the Milwaukee Brewers following victories by the Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals today. Darvish’s return to form after an injury-plagued 2018 will be key to the Northsiders’ hopes to regain the Central Division crown. Next up are the San Diego Padres for a weekend series at Wrigley starting on Friday at 2:20 PM Matchup: Eric Lauer (5-7, 4.04 ERA) vs. Jon Lester (9-6, 3.74 ERA).
