MLB journeyman SP Edwin Jackson made his Toronto Blue Jays debut on Wednesday versus the San Francisco Giants, appearing for a record-breaking 14th franchise, opposite rookie SP Shaun Anderson, who was making his MLB debut for San Fran. Jackson last made 17 starts for the Oakland Athletics in 2018, going 6-3 with an ERA of 3.33. He was acquired from Oakland following injuries to Matt Shoemaker (ACL) and Clay Buchholz (shoulder inflammation).
Jackson had a decent outing, but fell short of the quality start threshold, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits in 5.0 IP with 1 BB and 2 SO. The Jays fell behind early following a 2-run homer to Aramís García in the bottom of the second inning which broke a 1-1 tie, driving in former Jays fan favorite OF Kevin Pillar.
The Jays were able to score two more runs to tie the game on a wild pitch by Shaun Anderson which sent INF Brandon Drury home, as well as a groundout by INF Vladimir Guerrero Jr. which also drove in Drury.
Jackson was replaced by RP Ryan Tepera in the bottom of the 6th. Tepera allowed a home run to INF Brandon Crawford, which proved to be the game winner in a 4-3 loss.
The Jays continue their road trip tonight against the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago. Marcus Stroman (1-6, 3.12 ERA) will take the hill for Toronto, faced by Dylan Covey (0-2, 5.91 ERA) for the Southsiders. Support the site by buying your tickets from SeatGeek!
