Earlier this month, future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer‘s deal for an MLB-record annual salary of $43.3 million to finish his illustrious MLB career with the New York Mets became official. He will pair with the ace of the younger generation of pitchers, Jacob deGrom, for the best 1-2 combo in MLB.

I decided to check out Scherzer’s career home run log to see whether the two pitchers had allowed multiple home runs in a single game to any of the same players and if so, whether those players were active. They do not have any such players in common. However, there are two active players with multiple home career home runs against both pitchers:

Giancarlo Stanton (4 vs. deGrom; 3 vs. Scherzer)

Freddie Freeman (3 vs. both)

203 batters have homered off Scherzer in his 14-year career. The list includes many past and present MLB greats, including a father-son duo, Vladimir Guerrero Sr. and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Guerrero Sr.’s home runs came on April 23, 2010 and August 13, 2011. Guerrero Jr.’s home runs came on April 27, 2021 during his 2021 MVP runner-up campaign. He had three home runs in that game, making him the youngest Blue Jays player to hit three home runs in a single game.

Guerrero Jr. is one of 14 hitters with multi-homer games against Scherzer. I will detail these batters in a future post.
