The Atlanta baseball franchise stole Game 1 of the World Series on the road but lost starting pitcher Charlie Morton to a broken leg. The Houston Astros would need a victory to extend the series and press an injured Atlanta pitching staff.

Houston opened the scoring with Alex Bregman‘s sacrifice fly in the 1st inning.
Atlanta responded to tie the game on Travis d’Arnaud‘s solo home run in the 2nd inning.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Fried suffered death by a thousand singles. The Astros scored four runs on five singles and one error. Two of their RBI singles came from the bottom of the order.
Urquidy worked five innings for Houston, allowing two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts.
José Altuve added a homer in the 7th inning to climb the MLB career postseason home runs leaderboard.
The Series heads to Truist Park in Atlanta for three games starting on Friday at 8:09 PM ET. Luis Garcia (regular season – 11-8, 3.48 ERA; postseason – 1-1, 9.64 ERA) will look to build on his bounceback performance against Boston to clinch the American League Championship Series on October 22. He faces Ian Anderson (regular season – 9-5, 3.58 ERA; postseason – 1-0, 2.25 ERA).
