Jake Arrieta made his much-awaited Spring Training debut against the Arizona Diamondbacks in his second go-round with the Chicago Cubs during Sunday’s Spring Training action (box score).

Arrieta pitched two innings, allowing no runs on one hit and walking one Arizona batter. The Cubs lineup gave him an early lead, scoring three runs on home runs from Willson Contreras (solo) and Anthony Rizzo (two-run).

Adbert Alzolay took the mound in the 3rd inning in relief of Arrieta. He surrendered the Cubs lead on an RBI single by Ketel Marte and a two-run triple by Eduardo Escobar. He would continue pitching for the Cubs in the 4th, issuing a leadoff walk to Asdrúbal Cabrera. The Diamondbacks then took the lead on a dinger by Stephen Vogt.

The Cubs were only able to score one more run over a full nine innings, losing to Arizona by a score of 5-4.

The Northsiders will return to their Grapefruit League home at Sloan Park for a game against the Texas Rangers at 3:05 PM ET today. Kohei Arihara of Texas will face new Cubs acquisition Zach Davies
