On Saturday, April 2nd, the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) opened its milestone 40th season of professional baseball.

Former Toronto Blue Jay Wilmer Font nearly entered his name in the league’s record book in the Opening Day matchup between SSG Landers and the NC Dinos on Saturday. Font threw 9 perfect innings with 9 strikeouts but was not credited with a perfect game after being replaced by a relief pitcher in the bottom of the 10th inning. Landers would go on to win the game 4-0 in 10 innings.

The Venezuelan starter has pitched well in the KBO, striking out 157 hitters over 145.2 IP last season. He finished 2021 with the league’s lowest batting average against of .211 and second-lowest WHIP of 1.092.

SSG Landers are undefeated after the opening weekend and will return to action against the KT Wiz on Tuesday, April 5, at 5:30 a.m. ET.
