Arrieta Suffers First Inning Woes in Phillies Debut

Former Cubs ace Jake Arrieta made his debut for the Philadelphia Phillies against the Miami Marlins on Sunday, and appeared to be in 2017 form, allowing three runs in the first inning on three hits, one being a solo bomb by Miguel Rojas. The Phillies came back to tie the game with scoring plays in the bottom of the 1st and 3rd, taking Arrieta off the hook. After his first inning difficulties, the 2015 NL Cy Young winner settled down and pitched three scoreless innings, but was ultimately removed for a pinch hitter in the bottom of the 4th. The final line for Arrieta was 4.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R (2 earned), 2 BB, 5 SO and 1 HR. In the top of the 8th, the Phillies gave up three more runs to the Miami offense and went on to lose 6-3.

Philadelphia is next scheduled to host Cincinnati in a three-game series kicking off this evening at 7:05 PM ET.
