The Chicago White Sox recalled top pitching prospect Dylan Cease from Charlotte to start the first game of their day-night doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago. While Cease failed to post a quality start, he pitched long enough to claim the victory in the Sox’ 7-5 win, allowing three runs on four hits with six strikeouts and four walks in 5.0 IP.

Cease fell behind early on a two-run single by OF Harold Castro to score OF Nicholas Castellanos and INF Brandon Dixon, but the Sox battled back to take a two-run lead in the 4th inning on a double by INF Yolmer Sanchez which drove in OF Eloy Jiménez. Sanchez would advance to 3rd on the play and score on a sacrifice fly by OF Ryan Cordell.

Cease allowed another run on a solo shot by INF Jeimer Candelario in the 4th inning, but the Southsiders added on to secure the eventual victory by a 7-5 margin.

The Chisox went on to sweep the doubleheader with a 9-6 extra-innings defeat of the Tigers in the nightcap thanks to a three-run bomb by INF José Abreu in the 12th inning to bring home C Zack Collins and INF Leury García. They conclude their four-game set against Detroit with an Independence Day afternoon game at 2:10 PM ET. Matchup: Matthew Boyd (5-6, 3.72 ERA) vs. Reynaldo López (4-7, 6.12 ERA).
