Cubs Injury Report: Good News for Yu, Edwards to DL
Cubs fans were understandably anxious earlier this week due to a delay in releasing an update on the results of SP Yu Darvish’s MRI but were able to breathe a sigh of relief after it was disclosed that the MRI showed “no structural damage.” The team expects the struggling star to begin a throwing program within the next week. In the meantime, RP swingman Mike Montgomery is expected to continue filling in as he did during the Memorial Day contest versus the Pittsburgh Pirates in which he earned a win collaborating on a 7-0 shutout.
The consistency issues of the back end of the North Side rotation and resulting heavy usage of the bullpen are starting to catch up with the Cubs’ relief corps. I was saddened on Wednesday to learn the team announced that one of my personal favorites, RP Carl “String Bean” Edwards, Jr. was placed on the 10-day DL with “right shoulder inflammation.” Edwards has a record of 2-1 and a 2.88 ERA in 25 appearances so far this season. Get well soon, Carl, and I hope you get to check out some more dinosaur museums during your recovery!
