Guerrero Jr. Leads Phase 1 All-Star Voting

The Toronto Blue Jays have not had a player make the starting lineup of the MLB All-Star Game since 2015, when eventual American League MVP Josh Donaldson received the nod at 3rd base. The Jays have since turned the page on that chapter of team history and are led by a new young core, including Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The 1st baseman and early MVP candidate led all recipients in Phase 1 of fan voting with 2,704,788 votes. While Guerrero Jr. made a record-setting appearance in the 2019 Home Run Derby, if he is selected to the team, this will be his first appearance at the festivities as an All-Star Team member.

In order to earn a position in the starting lineup, he will need to beat fellow American League 1st base finalists Yuli Gurriel and reigning MVP José Abreu in the second round of fan voting. Phase 2 will begin at noon today and finish on Thursday at 2 PM ET. The votes will then be tallied with the starting lineups announced at 9 PM ET on Thursday.

Guerrero Jr. leads MLB in several major offensive categories, including home runs (26), RBI (66), OBP (.443) and OPS (1.127). His teammates Marcus Semien, Bo Bichette, Teoscar Hernández and Randal Grichuk join him as finalists after the first round of voting. Let’s vote Blue Jays!
