Guerrero Jr. Wins First All-Star Game MVP in Blue Jays History

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has enjoyed a breakout season in 2021, living up to his enormous potential and Hall of Fame pedigree. He made history at the MLB All-Star Game on Tuesday night, becoming the youngest player to win the All-Star Game MVP award, as well as the first Blue Jays player to take the honor. His final line was 1-3 with one run scored and two RBI in the American League’s 5-2 victory.

The leading vote recipient gave the fans a show with a 468-foot solo blast in the third inning, the 200th homer in All-Star Game history. This bomb made him and father Vlad Sr. the third father-son duo to homer in an All-Star Game along with Bobby and Barry Bonds and the Kens Griffey (Sr. and Jr.).

Vlad Jr. is an early contender for the American League MVP award, leading MLB in RBI (73), batting average (.332), OBP (.430) and OPS (1.089, 193 OPS+). Fans can watch him lead Toronto towards a potential second consecutive postseason appearance when play resumes against the Texas Rangers on Friday at 7:07 PM ET.
