Jays Steamroll Red Sox with 8 Homers at Fenway

The Toronto Blue Jays took the field against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park in Boston looking to guarantee a series split amid a tough stretch of 13 games with no off days. MLB’s #2 offense ranked by OPS would deliver, chasing Boston starter Martín Pérez from the game after just four outs. Teoscar Hernández started a homer parade with a three-run line drive over the Green Monster in the first inning, followed by Lourdes Gurriel Jr.‘s solo shot, giving the Jays an early 4-0 lead. Hernández blasted another three-run shot in the fourth inning. Marcus Semien, Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Cavan Biggio and Rowdy Tellez also went yard (box score). Guerrero’s homer was his 21st of the year. He is the current MLB leader in home runs, slugging percentage and OPS.

The Jays finished the game with 18 runs scored on 20 hits. Robbie Ray had a quality start, allowing three runs on four hits with 10 strikeouts over 6.0 IP. The team’s current record stands at 33-30, good for third place in the American League East standings, 7.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays.

The series finale against Boston will be at 7:10 PM tonight. The Jays will look to further demoralize the Red Sox with a road series victory behind rookie Alek Manoah (1-0, 3.14 ERA). Nathan Eovaldi (7-3, 4.11 ERA) will take the ball for Boston.
