Lorenzen Adds to Two-Way Résumé with Walkoff Double

Several days after joining the Babe Ruth Club by becoming the first pitcher to hit a home run while also pitching and playing in the field in the same game since Ruth did this nearly a century ago, Cincinnati Reds RP Michael Lorenzen walked off the Arizona Diamondbacks with an RBI double to give the Reds a 4-3 victory on Sunday (box score).

Lorenzen is now hitting .333/.417/.571 with a .988 OPS in 21 at-bats. He has one home run and five RBI. As a reliever, he is 1-4 with a 3.13 ERA (145 ERA+), a 1.23 WHIP and 76 strikeouts in 74.2 IP.

The first career walkoff hit by “Mikey Biceps” has added to his résumé as a player who is effective on the mound and at the plate. He is also the only active two-way player in MLB, since Shohei Ohtani has not made a pitching appearance this season due to recovery from Tommy John surgery.

The Reds have their first day off of September on Monday to travel to Seattle for a two-game interleague set against the Mariners starting on Tuesday at 10:10 PM ET.
