2022 World Series Game 2: Astros Tie Series Behind Early Barrage

The Philadelphia Phillies sought to head home with a two-game lead in the 2022 World Series after a dramatic comeback victory in the opener. Could they deal another stunning blow to Houston?

Houston 5, Philadelphia 2

Series tied 1-1

WP: Framber Valdez

LP: Zack Wheeler

The Astros got in business early thanks to three straight doubles off of Wheeler. A low throw by Edmundo Sosa that first baseman Rhys Hoskins was unable to pick from the dirt resulted in a third run scored in the inning.

Alex Bregman‘s two-run homer in the 5th added insurance.

Valdez pitched a quality start, allowing just one run in 6.1 IP and striking out nine Philly batters.

The series heads to Philadelphia for Halloween. Game 3 will be on Monday at 8:03 PM ET. The probable pitchers are Lance McCullers Jr. (postseason: 0-0, 2.45 ERA) and Noah Syndergaard (postseason: 0-0, 1.69 ERA).
