Big Sexy Career Milestone Watch: 246 Wins

Texas Rangers SP Bartolo “Big Sexy” Colón continued his milestone season on Tuesday night, surpassing the career victories record for Latin American-born pitchers set by Nicaraguan Dennis “El Presidente” Martínez with his 246th win, which came over the Seattle Mariners by a score of 11-4.

The Dominican-born pitcher was behind early in the game after giving up back-to-back solo homers to DH Nelson Cruz and INF Kyle Seager in the second inning, but he received run support in the form of four-run Rangers fourth inning, followed by three home runs thereafter to break the game open from INF Jurickson Profar, INF Rougned Odor and 3B Adrián Beltre. Colón’s final line was 4 ER and 8 hits in 7.0 IP, with 1 SO.

This win solidifies Colón’s status as one of the most successful Latin American players in the major leagues, although as previously discussed in a prior post, he does not have the elite numbers to be enshrined in Cooperstown and also has a past PED violation, which will tarnish his standing with the voters.

Texas closes out its series against division rival Seattle with a day game starting at 2:05 PM ET. Support the site by buying your tickets from SeatGeek!
