If the Northsiders can complete the season with fewer than 100 losses, it will be thanks to the efforts of the following top performers.

Happ is enjoying the best season of his career thanks to a significantly reduced strikeout rate, earning his first All-Star selection.

Morel has become a regular in the Cubs lineup after homering in his first MLB at-bat on May 17.

Suzuki missed over a month of action with a left ring finger sprain, but his return on July 4 with an inside-the-park home run off Josh Hader helped spark the Northsiders’ series victory over the Milwaukee Brewers with wins on July 5th and 6th.

The next challenge for these players will be the trade deadline. Stress levels will increase as several players will be sent to contenders for the stretch run, while those left behind will have to step into even more prominent roles.
