Cubs’ Seven-Game Winning Streak Snapped in 10-3 Loss to Mets

After a walkoff win in the suspended game concluded on Wednesday, the Chicago Cubs were looking to sweep the series and complete a perfect season series against the New York Mets in their regularly-scheduled matchup at Wrigley Field on Wednesday afternoon. That was not to be, however, as Cubs SP Alec Mills gave up a grand slam to Mets INF Todd Frazier in the 1st inning and the Northsiders’ bats were silenced by Mets SP Jason Vargas, who came into the game with an ERA near 7.00, after the Cubs had emerged victorious in games started by Mets aces Noah Syndergaard and Jacob deGrom.

Mills and the Cubs pen were able to keep the Mets from adding on until the 7th inning, when Cubs RPs Randy Rosario and Brandon Kintzler gave up 4 runs on RBI singles to INF Amed Rosario and OF Austin Jackson, in addition to a 2-run RBI triple to INF José Reyes.

The home team scored on an infield single by OF Ian Happ in the 2nd inning and a 2-run homer by C Victor Caratini (playing 3rd base) in the 9th inning, his first of the year. Frazier tallied an additional RBI for the visitors with a single off Cubs RP James Norwood in the 9th. The final outcome was a Mets victory by the score of 10-3.

The Cubs look to start a new winning streak with a makeup game against the Atlanta Braves tonight at 7:35 PM ET. Probable starters: Mike Montgomery (returning from DL) for the Cubs; TBD for the Braves. Support the site by buying your tickets from SeatGeek!
