Monday Division Series Roundup

After a weekend of Division Series action, Monday brought four Division Series elimination games, but only one team was eliminated as of the end of the night. Here are the current standings:

Monday, October 7

Rays 10, Astros 3 (box score)

L: Zack Greinke

The Rays burned Houston SP Greinke for 6 earned runs. He lasted just 3.2 IP. Tampa’s bats came alive with four home runs in the game, three off Greinke. OF Kevin Kiermaier had the game’s big blow with a three-run blast in the bottom of the 2nd.

Atlanta came back from a 2-0 deficit to take the lead in the top of the 5th on a two-run bomb by INF Ozzie Albies but surrendered the lead in the bottom of the 8th inning on a game-tying RBI single by C Yadier Molina. In extra innings, the Cardinals walked off on a sacrifice fly by Molina scoring INF Kolten Wong to avoid elimination.

Nationals 6, Dodgers 1 (box score)

LA took an early lead on a solo homer by INF Justin Turner, but Washington SP Scherzer would not allow any more runs, striking out seven Dodgers in 7.0 IP. The Nats came back to tie the game on a sacrifice fly by INF Anthony Rendon to bring home OF Michael A. Taylor. In the bottom of the 5th, Washington rallied for four runs, three on a bomb by INF Ryan Zimmerman, to take control of the game and force a decisive Game 5.

Yankees 5, Twins 1 (box score)

The Bomba Squad was silenced by Yanks pitching yet again en route to a New York sweep. Bronx Bombers SP Luis Severino was wobbly in the early going and only lasted 4.0 IP, but the Twins were unable to cash in on a bases loaded, no outs situation in the bottom of the 2nd. Severino retired three straight hitters and allowed no runs, striking out INF Marwin González and OF Jake Cave to end the Twins threat.

New York INF Gleyber Torres went 3-4 with three runs scored and 1 RBI on a solo home run.

The ALDS will continue today with Game 4 between the Astros and Rays at 7:07 PM ET. Matchup: Justin Verlander (21-6, 2.58 ERA) vs. Diego Castillo (5-8, 3.41 ERA).

Wednesday will feature two decisive Game 5 contests in the National League. First up is the Cardinals at Braves at 5:02 PM ET. Matchup: Jack Flaherty (11-8, 2.75 ERA) vs. Mike Foltynewicz (8-6, 4.54 ERA). The Nationals at Dodgers will be the prime-time tilt at 8:37 PM ET. Matchup: Stephen Strasburg (18-6, 3.32 ERA) vs. Walker Buehler (14-4, 3.26 ERA).
