NLDS Roundup: Brewers Outlast Rockies; Dodgers Shut Out Braves

Following Tuesday’s National League Wild Card game, the best of five National League Division Series opened on Thursday evening. The action featured the #1 seeded Milwaukee Brewers versus the Colorado Rockies and the Los Angeles Dodgers against the Atlanta Braves.

Brewers 3, Rockies 2 (Final/10)

Brewers Lead 1-0

Player of the Game: Christian Yelich (2-3, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 1 HR)

The Rockies were blanked by the Brewers opener, RP Brandon Woodruff, and his bullpen mates until the top of the 9th inning, when they got even with two runs off closer Jeremy Jeffress (BS) on an RBI single by Charlie Blackmon to drive in PH/OF Gerardo Parra and a sacrifice fly by INF Nolan Arenado that scored PR Garrett Hampson, but they failed to cash in a go-ahead run with the bases loaded. They eventually fell in extra innings on an RBI single by Brewers INF Mike Moustakas scoring OF Christian Yelich. The Brewers OF also hit a 2-run shot off Rox SP Antonio Senzatela in the bottom of the 3rd.

Dodgers Lead 1-0

Player of the Game: Hyun-Jin Ryu (7.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 8 SO)

The Dodgers came out swinging behind SP Hyun-Jin Ryu, who held the visitors scoreless in 7.0 IP on 4 hits with no walks and 8 strikeouts, taking an early lead on a solo home run by OF Joc Pederson. LA went on to score three more in the bottom of the 2nd off a 3-run bomb by INF Max Muncy that plated Pederson and INF Justin Turner, and another solo homer in the bottom of the 6th by INF Kiké Hernández. In the bottom of the 8th, the Dodgers scored an additional tally on a sacrifice fly by PH David Freese that drove in OF Yasiel Puig.
