Red Sox Slug Their Way to Ninth World Series Title

The Boston Red Sox came into Game 5 of the World Series with a 3-1 advantage looking to put away the Los Angeles Dodgers for their franchise’s ninth World Series championship. SP David Price delivered with a seven-inning performance, allowing just one run on 3 hits with 2 BB and 5 SO, and the offense backed him up with four home runs. The Red Sox opened the scoring with a two-run homer by INF Steve Pearce driving in OF Andrew Benintendi.

The Dodgers answered with a leadoff home run off Price by INF David Freese. It looked like they might be able to make some trouble for Price after he issued a walk to INF Justin Turner, but OF Enrique “Kiké” Hernández grounded into a double play and INF Manny Machado struck out to end the inning. Price would not allow any further damage during the rest of his seven-inning outing.

In the top of the 6th, OF Mookie Betts hit a solo shot to take back the run allowed at the beginning of the game.

J.D. Martinez would follow up with another solo home run in the top of the 7th inning.

Finally, in the top of the 8th, INF Steve Pearce hit another solo blast to give the Red Sox a four-run advantage. Pearce was the World Series Most Valuable Player Award winner following his 3 HR, 8 RBI performance.

Chris Sale came on in relief in the bottom of the 9th to put the finishing touches on the Red Sox championship after a historic season, striking out the side.

Now that the 2018 season has come to an end, fans around the world who are not celebrating a championship for their favorite team will be looking forward to the distribution of awards and the changes that will be made to their teams’ rosters ahead of the 2019 season.
