Sho Far, Sho Good – Ohtani Earns Win in MLB Pitching Debut

Japanese two-way star Shohei Ohtani made his MLB pitching debut on Sunday for the Los Angeles Angels against the Oakland Athletics. Other than a three-run second inning on a homer by Matt Chapman, Ohtani had a clean outing, showing off his triple-digit fastball and repertoire of breaking pitches, which included a slider, splitter and curveball. He ended the day with a 4-3 lead, retiring fourteen of the last fifteen batters he faced, with a pitching line of 6.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R (3 earned), 1 BB, 6 SO and 1 HR. Thanks to the young pitcher’s efforts and his teammates’ run support, the Angels improved to 3-1 on the 2018 season in a 7-4 victory over the Athletics, with Ohtani earning his first major-league win.
