Sports Night in Toronto

Wednesday was a big night for Toronto sports fans as the Maple Leafs faced the Bruins in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup playoffs’ first round, the Raptors hosted the Wizards in Game 5 of their NBA playoff series, and the Red Sox played the second game of their three-game series against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.

As could be expected, Toronto teams were only 1 for 3 on the evening, as the Raptors defeated the Washington Wizards 108-98 and now lead their series 3-2. In a disappointing turn of events for bar owners throughout the Greater Toronto Area, the Maple Leafs were defeated 7-4 after heading into the third period with a 4-3 lead and have been eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs. Finally, the 18-5 Red Sox snapped a three-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory over the Blue Jays, led by a two-homer game from OF Mookie Betts.

Thanks to the loss by the Maple Leafs, life can once again return to normal in Canada, as Maple Leafs fans no longer have to contend with the distraction of a winning team in the playoffs and hockey lovers in other Canadian cities can enjoy their national pastime without being consumed by hatred of the Maple Leafs’ success.
