Zack Greinke is 3rd Active Pitcher to 200 Wins

Zack Greinke, acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks by the Houston Astros to bolster their rotation ahead of the postseason, has become the third active pitcher to record 200 MLB wins with his start in the Astros’ 4-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Sunday.

Greinke allowed one run on four hits with three walks and six strikeouts in 7.0 IP. He is now 13-4 with a 2.84 ERA on the year. The win was his third victory for Houston in three starts.

The only other active pitchers with 200+ victories are CC Sabathia of the Yankees (251) and Astros teammate Justin Verlander (219). Sabathia, Verlander and Greinke are also three of MLB’s six active strikeout leaders with over 2,500 punchouts.

The next two players closest to reaching the 200 victory milestone are Félix Hernández (169) and Max Scherzer (168). Both players are also members of the 2,500+ strikeout club. They are trailed by Clayton Kershaw (165) and Cole Hamels (162), the final member of the 2,500+ strikeout club not already mentioned.

The Astros return home to take on the Detroit Tigers for a four-game series beginning tonight at 8:10 PM ET. Matchup: Edwin Jackson (3-5, 8.62 ERA) vs. Wade Miley (11-4, 3.11 ERA). Support the site by purchasing your tickets from SeatGeek!
