Aaron Judge Chasing Home Run and Triple Crown History

Aaron Judge is on the verge of a historic season for the New York Yankees. The MVP front-runner hit his 58th and 59th home runs of the 2022 season in the Yankees’ 12-8 defeat of the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday. He is now just two home runs shy of tying fellow Yankee Roger Maris‘s American League single-season home run record.

The 2017 Rookie of the Year is also leading MLB with 123 RBI, giving him the lead in two of the three Triple Crown stats. He currently ranks third in the American League in batting average, the final Triple Crown stat. The league leader is Luis Arraez, with .317. Xander Bogaerts and Judge are just behind with .316. The last MLB hitter to sweep the Triple Crown categories was future Hall-of-Famer Miguel Cabrera in 2012.

Judge has been the presumptive MVP winner for months. Breaking Maris’s home run record and winning a Triple Crown while leading the Yankees to another playoff berth will solidify his case to win the first MVP award of his career.
